Tax Season: Running Through a Check!

By: Edward Ball

I know its tax season and y’all are running through a check, 2 checks actually-state and federal. Y’all have been broke since last year after you ran through last year’s check. I am shaking my head because the struggle has been forgotten: broke all year long, thirsty with your stomach touching your back, memory loss when that tax money hits.

Running through a check is a mistake. It’s a mistake for several reasons:

  • Everything is marked up
  • You gave up an interest free loan
  • You don’t know what the f$@? You’re doing

Last winter I bought a Toyota Corolla for a couple grand. I bought it off Craig’s list. However, I looked for 5 months all over the internet, going to car lots, people’s homes, and parking lots until I found the right car for the right price.

I had my eye on a few cars at a lot on the east side of town. I looked at every car on their lot every single day for 5 months. I heard of people charging more than normal for their products during tax season, but this car lot had lost their damn mind. Cars they had not sold for close to a year and had marked down previously were now marked up more than a thousand dollars higher than the original price. Every single car was marked up to sell to the people who had been broke all year long.

People, companies, and groups are on the prowl during tax season ready to impose a sort of tax on all those who received a refund; it’s a poor tax.

When the government gives you money back its money you let them borrow all year and they didn’t pay you any interest. That’s money you could have put in some interest earning account or used that money to make money.

Let’s be honest, some of you fat tax check recipients are indiscriminately spending money; buying a bunch of bull. Buying weave, lemons, cardboard furniture, and knockoff Jordan’s. Two months later you’re broke, weave is musty, your car is broke down, your couch is sagging and the jump man fell off your knockoffs. You don’t know what the F@$& you’re doing.

To make matters worse you claimed some kids that belonged to someone else and now you owe the government.

Stop running through a check. Make that money work for YOU not for some price gouging crook or a financially irresponsible government. And figure out what the f@$& you’re doing this tax season, or the next tax season if you are broke already.
